Capturing the Milestones, or just everyday!

I get countless emails from parents usually starting off the email by apologizing.. they will tell me that they failed or that they cannot believe they have went this long without having professional photos taken, or even taking any photos themselves for that matter.

The truth of it is... Relax, go easy on yourself.. You are just like most other parents who have the best of intentions but, you just don't always get around to scheduling the session! Some of you have now set your baby up on a grow with me package so that we photograph them every 3 months, to keep up on milestones, accomplishments, and changes, other plan a shoot every year, usually around your child's birthday, while some of you just plan them randomly...

Thankfully with the help of smart phones, and point and shoot, and those of you who play around with your DSLR, we can capture images quickly... but we all know that the iphone shots usually dont make it up on the wall.

Whether you are scheduling a professional photo shoot, or you are taking them yourself, make sure you pre-plan your shoots, write it on a calendar, choose the location, shop for a new outfit.. Even as a photog, I find myself having to schedule my daughters Photo shoots or they do not always happen. That doesn't make me a bad mom that I have to sit down and actually write it on a calendar, life can get busy, we all work long hours, our kids are bottled up rockets just bursting of energy, sometimes weeks pass at the speed of what feels like a day... and if it wasn't written down and scheduled it wouldn't happen. Just remember you can never get moments back and that is why it's important to capture them, through photographs that can be enjoyed again and again.

Ava & Eli from their 1st Birthday shoot!
It doesn't matter if your child was happy or sad, cried and ran from the camera... sometimes shoots go ad planned and other times, they just dont.. but, they always produce images that you will love.

Quite honestly, many of my very favorite images of the children I photograph as well as my own daughter are not the perfectly posed shots with a an overcheesed smile, it's the tiny tear, the furrowed brow, the splashed mud puddle, the tender kisses from mama, the impromptu tickle sesh, moments wrestling with dad, wet eyelashes, or a newborns yawn... These are moments you will cherish... these are memories!
